Pridelands

It was March 2020, the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was then that I decided to draw my favorite Disney villain, Scar as an anthropomorphic lion living in present day. This begun a 3 year long world expansion of a society where your favorite animal characters walk on two legs, a concept similar to Zootopia and Talespin with more grit. This project took the internet by storm as has sparked hilarious conversations and nostalgia. To start, I thought of the character I wanted to draw. Then I thought about what aura or personality I wanted the character to have. I then collected references of the character’s face by watching and pausing the corresponding movies. I searched Pinterest, Instagram and Google for posing and fashion references. I even took pictures of myself to get the positioning right. I use Procreate on the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil. It usually takes me about 4-6 hours per character.
